Dearest Friends of Corgis and Each Other!
We have an update as of 20 minutes ago when Tammy Gatti called me. She had been away last week but had a lot to share. Here is the gist: Holiday Barn still wants to host a Corgi Meetup/playdate with refreshments for the doggie owners as well, leaving us with discounts/coupons for training classes (agility etc) and lots more as well,...all free. And/But here is what they ask us to consider and it is what we have been challenged by recently: Liability! The owner of Holiday Barn discussed liability issues for groups coming to visit them with their Lawyer. The Lawyer spoke with Tammy, who described a Liability plan that would protect the doggies and the humans if Anything happened at Holiday Barn and in Public Places And in Homes (private places,) Etc... This seems like it could solve al our concerns about what would happen if there were an injury or whatever...it also, I believe, means we don't have to sign a waiver when we go to the Holiday Barn for the meetup visit or future visits, we just have to show proof of this coverage which they can set us up with the plan. Here's the deal: it costs $250.00 a year for the/a whole group, doesn't matter how big or how small the gorup is. that would be about 10$ a piece or more if some people could afford it as I am not sure all people will pay/are continuing to participate regularily in the group. If we do not get a Yea/Yes on this there will be no Holiday Barn Meetup and the group can continue as is... I have paid the fee meetup group websiteand it's good for another 5 months. Lastly I will write in the next email that I am stepping down as Organizer. I am starting graduate school and I things with my family have been very busy... I will still love to come to meetups, so I hope someone, or some people will be the Organizers/Assistant organizers of the group... I send my love, as does Courtie! Leila |

While a Holiday Barn meetup sounds great, I'm not sure if I understand the whole liability situation. Is there a way we could avoid having to pay the $250/year and just have a one-time fee for the Holiday Barn meetup? I know the Richmond Pug Meetup has monthly meetups at Barker Field, which are free to everyone. I think most people would rather not pay to participate in the meetups, especially if we can all participate in them for free. If we meet at a public place like Barker Field, I don't see how there could be any liability issues either.
Perhaps we're making a bigger deal out of this liability thing than is necessary? I'm not sure. I think most people would rather not worry about that aspect and just meet up with other Corgis/owners to have fun. |

From Tammy @ Holiday Barn: The reason a liability policy should be purchased is that no matter how careful we all are as pet owners, accidents happen. Either with people or with our animals. This holds true no matter where you go and there is always a risk of injury etc. Realistically speaking, it would be in your best interest for your group to purchase this policy because it will cover you all as a group no matter where you meet. You would be covered for medical if something should happen to your pet, you or if something got damaged at a place where you are meeting. The cost split between 38 people is going to run you no more than approx 10.00 per person. It is only a one time fee to the insurance agent which I have already given the info to Leila to verify and get started. We just want to make sure everyone is taken care of should anything happen and accidents are something not many people consider when doing meet up groups. Veterinarian bills and human health bills are very costly and you will definiately save by doing this. |
