Koontz to hold book-signing at Canine Companions campus
2:00 a.m. October 23, 2009

OCEANSIDE — Best-selling author Dean Koontz will sign copies of two new books that pay tribute to his dog, Trixie, at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Canine Companions for Independence, 124 Rancho del Oro Drive in Oceanside.
Trixie was a service dog trained by Canine Companions, a nonprofit that provides assistance dogs for adults and children with disabilities.

The yellow Labrador retriever was adopted by Koontz at age 3, when an injury necessitated her early retirement. In 2007, when Trixie was 12, she died of cancer. Koontz described Trixie as a magical dog that “changed our lives and made us better people than we otherwise would have been.”

His new nonfiction work “A Big Little Life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog” and the children's picture book, “I, Trixie Who Is Dog,” celebrate the pet and her effect on the Koontz family.

Book sales will benefit Canine Companions for Independence. Event attendees can tour the campus and see demonstrations by Canine Companions assistance dogs. The event is free. For more information, call (800) 572-2275 or cci.org .

It's the same time as the meetup. Tough decision, corgi meetup or stand in line for Dean Koontz' autograph.

I went to Dean's book signing the last time. My advice is to get there early, snag your number, and prepare for a long long wait. It is a wonderful cause and despite the long wait I really did have a good time.
