Time to dress your corgi up in a silly costume and walk around Greenlake!

Our theme this year is fruit. Target is selling banana costumes sized to fit all corgis, so if you are not feeling creative, stop in and get a costume. If you are feeling creative... how about a kiwi corgi? A strawberry corgi? Or maybe a blackberry (fruit of the loom Ranger) corgi? The options are endless.

We are thinking that a bunch of corgis and a stand-in gorilla (Myranda?) would be just the thing to celebrate Halloween.

We'll meet at the community center and try to keep an enjoyable pace for all. Although some corgis are fast pace setters. Parking is limited, so plan to find a place on the street in front of the community center.

Plan about 2 hours for the walk, if we go around the lake twice. If people want to, we can do a potluck or have a picnic after the walk.

Bring your cameras and be ready for some really amusing looks from passerbys!

Let me know if you have questions.

Finally, we have a new date for our Manchester State Park Corgi Camp Out! It's a month later than originally planned, because I simply could not get a reservation earlier - this is a very popular group camp. I hope lots of you can join us for the weekend, or just for Saturday! We'll provide additional details as we get closer to the big day, but for now here's the basics:

We'll be in the group campsite at Manchester State Park, and it has great amenities, including 12 RV sites with electrical and water hookups, 4 RV sites without, and all kinds of room for people to pitch tents. There's also a bathroom with showers, a covered picnic shelter with 8 tables and electricity, and a fire pit. In the center of the group site there's a big grassy area where it would be fun to set up some games and agility equipment for the dogs to play.

The park is right outside of Port Orchard and has a beautiful view, looking across the water toward Seattle. As with all state parks, it's "on-leash," but there are nice trails to take the dogs for walks on.

For those who will be camping, here are prices per night, but these may go up a little if there are 2009 price increases: RV site with hookups - $28.75/night; RV site without hookups - $22.12/night; tents are $5.00 per night. Payment will be due to me by Sept 1 and I'll provide the address where you can send it when you RSVP.

Because Manchester is so close-in, and the facility is so nice, we're hoping that those who don't camp will come just for Saturday afternoon and evening and we'll have a big barbeque and potluck.

That's all the pertinent details for now, but watch for more information in the July timeframe.

Low tide (-3.2) is at 10:08, so opportunities to romp, swim and roll in stinky stuff should be just reaching their peak when we arrive.

Since this event is the same weekend as our camping trip, there won't be an organizer at this event. But we wanted everyone to know about it because it is very fun! All of the details are at CPWCC.org, just click on events and you can access the details and the registration form. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me or post it on the message board. If you are planning to go, I strongly recommend registering in advance. This event is for Pembroke Welsh Corgis only, apologies to our Cardi and Corgi mix friends.

It's time to make reservations for our third annual Grayland Beach Corgi Camp Out! As some of you know, the original plan was to get reservations for July 24 - 26, 2009 but to my surprise and dismay this morning, the park is all booked up, so I had to go with an earlier date: June 12 - 14, 2009.

If you haven't been camping with us at Grayland Beach State Park, it's definitely worth the long range planning. It's one of the nicest State Parks in Washington, with miles of beach for the dogs to play on just steps from your campsite….that's why we have to reserve really early to get the very best sites.

Our goal this year is to get everyone on the same "circle" if possible - that'll be sites 64 - 69 and if those fill up, sites 70 - 75 in the "right beach" area on the campground map are still really close. If you are bringing an RV, camper, or anything other than a tent, you'll need to reserve your own site, but if you are camping in a tent, you can share a site with someone who has reserved an RV site. If you want to do that, just make it clear in your RSVP that you've got a tent and want to share a site and we'll match you up.

We'll provide lots more detail as we get closer to the big date, but for now, if you think you want to join us, make your reservation immediately, while there are still sites available! Here's the website for on-line reservations: http://www.camis.com/WA/camping/maps.asp?loc=187

To get to Whidbey Island, take the Mukilteo Ferry. If you haven't been to Mukilteo before, just head straight down Mukilteo Blvd and follow the signs to the ticket booth. The ferry ride from Mukilteo to Whidbey Island takes about 20 minutes.

Upon arrival at the ferry dock on Whidbey, just drive off the ferry and head north for about 7 miles. Take a left onto Double Bluff Rd and follow to the end. It's about 10 minutes from the ferry to the beach.

Note that we're listing the time for this event as 9:00. That means aim to be on the 9:00 (or as close to that as possible) ferry. That'll put you at the off-leash park at about 9:30 - 9:45. Low tide (-2.5) is at 10:32, so we'll have plenty of beach to play on before the tide comes back in. We'll gather on the beach near the entrance to the off leash part of the beach. A herd of corgis is pretty hard to miss and we'll hang around the entrance till 9:45 before heading north up the beach.

For those who want to carpool, we can use the message board to facilitate that. If you are taking a car and have room for rider(s), please post; likewise, if you need a ride, post a request. You can match yourselves up and make arrangements to meet. A good place to meet is in the big parking lot to the left of the ferry dock, near the lighthouse.

Things to bring: Rubber boots or sandals would be good for the surf, binoculars for waterfowl, fresh water, towels, balls and cameras (of course).
